Summary

Zinc and copper compete for absorption via metallothionein binding. Chronic zinc (>40mg/day) depletes copper stores, potentially causing copper deficiency anemia, neutropenia, and irreversible neurological damage. Well-established. If supplementing zinc long-term, add copper at ~1mg per 15mg zinc ratio.
